This is a subjuctive (opinion-based) question, and many so-called kickboxers are truly practitioners of various forms of karate or Muay-Thai (Thai Boxing). You can base this answer off of who has the best kick in the UFC. Although it is opinionated, the fighter with the best kick is hands down Antoni Hardonk. He trained in the most renowned kickboxing gym Vos Gym his whole life and trained noted fighters such as Mirko Cro Crop. Notable strikers who utilize both hands and feet include, but are not limited to: Chuck Liddell, Anderson Silva, Georges St. Pierre, Mirko Crop Cop, Lyoto Machida, Cheick Kongo, and Wanderlei Silva.

As to the successful application of one method or another in real-life self defense, it depends greatly on the level of skill and development of the practitioner, as well as the quality of instruction more than the art itself.
