As of the 2011 Stanley Cup finals, the NHL team that has gone longest since winning a Stanley Cup is the Toronto Maple Leafs, who last won the Cup in 1967. In number of seasons, they share that Cup drought with the St. Louis Blues and the Los Angeles Kings, who both began play in the 1968-1969 season, but have never won the Cup. The previous longest Stanley Cup drought belonged to the Chicago Black Hawks, who won the Cup in the 1960-61 season, then not again until the 2009-2010 season. (A previous answer listed the Ottawa Senators as having the longest Cup drought, but the original Ottawa Senators ceased play in 1934 after winning the Cup for the last time in 1927. The current Ottawa Senators did not begin play until the 1992-1993 season. Even adding up the years a Senators franchise COULD have won the Cup by competing in the NHL, and didn't -- 25 seasons, i.e., seven seasons with the original franchise and 18 seasons with the current franchise -- Ottawa still doesn't own the longest Cup drought.)
