the storyline is about a victim and 2 interrogators
it is about a victim with two interrogators(non gender specific) the interrogator start by almost interviewing the victim, they do tap sequences to do this, when the victim refuses to answer, then they start humiliating the victim. when the interrogators leave stage the victim executes a solo based on trying to get free ( the dancers moves across the diagonal line to the light to achieve this). the dance ends with the victim either dying or being set free, based on your interpretation of the piece. the interrogation process throughout becomes more vigorous and intense.
Its not the shoes its the dancers feet
to make the prisoner feel like a stupid (like a clown)
Ballet dancers wear Ballet Shoes which are mainly soft pink and sometimes have a ribbon to secure them
A couple of Christopher Bruce's dances are; Swansong, Ghost Dancers, Rooster, Cruel Garden, Sergeant Early's Dream, Moonshine
Dancers use pointe shoes to make them look taller, give the thought that they are on their toes, to give their body a more graceful line.
The costume of the prisoner is a plain red-t-shirt worn with jeans and black jazz shoes the red t-shirt connotes blood and danger which suits the name of 'swansong' as 'swansong' is about amnesty international and human rights. Where as the prison guards wear a khaki style uniform which defines them as the prison guards as it is a stereotypical uniform that they wear. these to also wear black jazz shoes on their feet.
Many dancers use lamb's wool to cushion their toes in pointe shoes. Some dancers use gel toe pads, also. However some do not.
