These instructions are for a 1996 XV1100: Looking at either side of your bike, find the hex bolt just below the front of the seat. There is one on each side of the bike. On my bike they also hold on the side covers. Remove both hex bolts completely. They are different lengths so keep them separate. Lift the front of the seat about 2 inches and slide the whole seat assembly forward. To replace the seat on the bike: With the seat is off, locate the plastic tab on the rear underside of the seat. Find the accompanying slot on the motorcycle. You'll have to maneuver that tab into the slot to properly replace the seat on the bike. You'll know it's set correctly when you cannot lift the rear of the seat off the bike. After it's in place, replace both hex bolts and tighten snugly.
