An omoplata can be used as a submission, a sweep, and a setup for other submissions and sweeps. It's kinda difficult to describe in words, but it's basically applying a shoulder lock with your legs instead of using your arms. Usually you apply it from the guard, but it can be used in lots of positions.

What does plata mean in jiu jitsu?
Omoplata means shoulder blade in Portuguese. Gogo means throat in Portugese. There is no connection to the "plata" part of Gogoplata besides the fact that you throw your leg over the shoulder to place your foot underneath someone's throat.

Mauy Thai is run by William Shultz called Mongrel Combatives and is by far the best and most legit MT in the state. Most Muay Thai in RI is converted American kickboxing but not Battleground.
