A power play in hockey occurs when a player is called for a penalty. The team who does not have a player in the penalty box will have a man advantage known as the power player. Typically it is 5 on 4 but it can vary in numbers depending on the situation.

It depends. If it is a minor penalty such as trippin hooking etc.... then it would go as a 2 minute mionr. A double minor is just how it sounds. 2 times a minor which is 4 minutes. A major penaly such as fighting is 5 minutes. A game misconduct I THINK... you just miss a period or sometimes its a game misconduct. hense the word game misconduct. On a regular minor, if a team scores, the man gets out of the penalty box early. on a double minor, if a team scores before the First minor ends, the man still stays in the box. then if they score on the second minor, he comes out. So on that you have a chance for two goals. A game misconduct, if it's only a period, you dont go to the penalty box. you go to the lockerroom. I hope i answered your question.

Ice Hockey is normally played with 5 players from each team (not including the goalies) on the ice at once. When a team is penalized, that team must play one player short, creating a 5-on-4 power play for the other team. This is the usual number of players on the ice during a power play. However, in situations where there are multiple penalties, 5-on-3 or 4-on-3 power plays may occur. Teams cannot have less than 3 players on the ice at one time (again, not counting the goalie) so the fewest number of players possible is 3-on-3, which is not a power play since both teams have the same number of players.

It is possible to have 6-on-4 or 6-on-3 power plays if the team on the power play pulls its goalie (leaving their net open) and replaces him with an extra attacking player. Note that 6-on-5 is not considered a power play since the team with 5 has the advantage of shooting at an open net. By the same reasoning, if a penalized team pulls its goalie to create a 5-on-5 situation, the team with its goalie still on the ice is considered to have a power play.
