Attending a class would be a good way to learn Pilates or alternatively a good DVD-Video and book.

Jillian Hessell sells a good dvd for pilates. Building muscle tone is hard work, but she makes it look easy in her dvd's. Everything is explained thoroughly, and she demonstrates the proper way to exercise without overdoing it.

Personally, I would only pay around $10 for a pilates DVD. These videos can range anywhere from a couple dollars up to about $30 depending on the program offered on the DVD.
"10 Minute Solution: Rapid Results Pilates" DVD can be found at a lot of stores. Target, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy and Walmart carry this training DVD.
