England never take part in the Eurovision Song Contest. The United Kingdom takes part in it. They took part in 2010, as they do every year, as they are one of the 5 main countries that get automatic entry into the final and don't have to enter the semi-finals.
In the first contest held in 1956, there were 7 countries taking part, each with 2 songs. Some countries had both songs sung by the same person whilst others had to seperate acts. In total there were 12 performers. Three further countries intended to partcipate but failed to make the deadline in order to take part.
