many sports where you have to work certain muscles repetitively using the same amount of energy with each force against resistance. long distance sports such as cycling, marathon running and swimming are all muscular endurance activities. however, sports such as football and rugby where you have to be able to control your endurance for a certain period of time, require this, as you will be constantly running.

The main components needed for football are speed, stamina, muscular power and flexibility. Speed is needed to get away from your defender or to catch up to the attacker. Stamina is needed so that you can run around a lot and not get so tired. Muscular power is needed to get above the defenders to make a header or to get possession. Flexibility is needed when you're a goalkeeper to dive and jump.
A couple sports that require muscular endurance would be cross country, soccer, swimming, water polo. Any sport that requires you to use the same muscle groups for extended periods of time.
Muscular endurance is determined by how well your slow twitch muscle fibers are developed. In case your wondering what slow twitch muscle fibers are: there are generally two types of muscle fibers in your body, slow twitch and fast twitch. Slow twitch muscle fibers cannot exert as much force as fast twitch, but can sustain an effort over a much greater period of time. Fast twitch muscle fibers can exert a great amount of force but for a very limited amount of time. Therefore, slow twitch equals endurance, while fast twitch equals strength. If you are looking to improve muscular endurance, the best way would be to involve yourself in just about any cardivascular activity, running, biking, and playing sports. If you are looking to improve the endurance of your upper body, bodyweight exercises such as chin-ups, push-ups, triceps dips, etc., will improve this, and your strength as well.
