Rick Hansen (born 1957), a Canadian Paralympian, is most famous for his Man in Motion World Tour. Between March 1985 and May 1987, Hansen travelled by wheelchair over 40,000 kilometres in 34 countries and on four continents. In the process, he raised some $26 million for spinal cord research. (Hansen was paralyzed by a spinal cord injury at age 15.) Since his tour, Hansen has served as CEO of the Rick Hansen Foundation, which raises money for spinal cord research. He has received the Order of British Columbia and has been inducted into the Terry Fox Hall of Fame.
