In 1988 when Greg Louganis struck the back of his head during a dive in the 10 meter platform event but he came back to win the competition. There have been two deaths in Olympic competition. In 1912, Portuguese marathoner Francisco Lazaro collasped and died during the race due to severe dehydration. It was discovered he had rubbed wax over his body to prevent sunburn and this restricted his ability to sweat. In 1960, Danish cyclist Knut Jensen died during the road race event. An autopsy showed he died of heat stroke believed to have been caused by amphetamines.
