The betting line tells you the amount of money that you will get paid in a bet, it will most of the time be calculated using $100 as a reference. Is very simple:

It will be - or +. If you have -200, you will have to bet 200 hundred dollars to gain 100. Of course you will get back your initial bet of $200 plus the $100 earned. But you win only 100. If the betting line is +200 then you bet $100 and get paid $200. So in this case again you get your initial 100 plus the 200 than you earned.

100 is even. It mean that you bet 100 and earn 100.

Sports betting lines are used to make betting for the player or team who are less likely to win more attractive to those who are buying bets. It is done by subtracting and adding numbers so for example a team must win against the other by at least a certain number of points.

How does one use NFL betting lines?

Unlike other sports, the betting lines in the National Football League (NFL) are relatively simple. Typically a line is set with a plus or minus line to denote how much a team is favored or an underdog based on the game's expected score. A better bets whether or not a team will cover that line, which is to say exceed the number of points they are expected to win or lose by. So if a team is favored by 8 1/2 points, for a better to win, the team would have to win by nine or more points.

What is the line in gambling?

The line is the number of points that the favored team should beat the underdog team by. This is not a truly accurate indication of how much they should win by, but rather a number put up by the sports book to attempt to get an even amount of betting for both teams. For example, if a sports book thinks that Denver will beat San Francisco by 10 points, they will set the line at 9 1/2 points or 10 1/2 points. If the betting goes heavily for Denver, the line will move down to encourage San Francisco bettors. If the reverse is true, the line will move up. You can gauge how the betting is going by checking the line daily.
