It was intended to be a Golf club open to only a select group of men from across the nation, and its membership has expanded to include prominent businessmen, US Presidents and other prominent politicians, wealthy elites in the Augusta, Georgia area, and others of importance.

Winners of The Masters are also admitted as "honorary members."
