What does the c logo mean for the bears?

The Bears "C" logo actually came from my College. CARROLL COLLEGE, now called CARROLL UNIVERSITY was established in 1864, making it one of the oldest schools in the Mid-west. The Chicago Bears came to CC and bought the logo from Carroll. They made their changes by condensing the "C" to make it a tad bit smaller. Patented it, and made it their own. The reason I know this is because I played football for Carroll for 4 years from 2004-2008 and it was something all the BEARS fans and Chicago natives prided themselves on when all the stingy packer fans gave us a hard time! Carroll College was founded in 1846. The Bears practiced on the school's field in the mid 1940's. There's an old story of a family touring the school, when the father saw the Bear's practicing on the school's field he commented, " That's the best college team I've ever seen." The rumor goes that the Bears payed the school $200 dollars for the logo, however, it's never been verified. But, there is a connection between the Bear's and Carroll.....

When were the Chicago Bears founded?

The Chicago Bears are one of the two charter NFL franchises still in operation today (the other being the Arizona Cardinals). The Bears, in 1920, were the Decateur Staleys, named after their owner. In 1921, the team moved to Wrigley Field & became the Chicago Staleys. In this time frame, George S. Halas was purchasing control of the club from Staley. In 1922, Halas was the league's first player-coach-owner for his new team, the Chicago Bears, the new nickname inspired by their home field (Wrigley Field, which is the legendary home of baseball's Chicago Cubs). The short answer: The franchise began as an original NFL franchise. The team known as the Bears were first assembled in 1922.

How did the Bears get the nickname Monsters of the Midway?

The nickname Monsters of the Midway was originally applied to the University of Chicago "Maroons", a strong college football team under the leadership of Amos Alonzo Stag. "Midway" is a reference to the Midway Plaisance, a long, green swath of boulevard space bordering the southern end of the campus between 59th and 60th Streets and running from Washington Park to Jackson Park on Chicago's South Side. The U of C decided to drop its football program in 1939, about the time when the Bears became dominant in the NFL by beating the Packers every year; the tag was appropriated by the Bears, even though their home turf was Wrigley Field on the North Side of the city (roughly 12 miles from the Midway). (They also borrowed the "C" symbol on their helmets from the U of C Maroons.) The moniker is also used by the university's Velo Club bicycle racing team, for their annual criterium , which takes place in May on the Midway.
