== == A game is overseen by a referee who has the right to enforce the rules of the games. The primary rule is that all players other than the goal keeper are not allowed to handle the ball with their hands or arms during play. Although most players usually use their feet to move the ball around, players are allowed to use any part of their bodies other than their hands or arms. Each team consists of, at most, eleven players, one of whom must be the goal keeper. There is an equal amount of players on either team. Players may be switched with substitutes during the course of the game. General reasons for a substitution include injury or tiredness or inefficiency. The equipment that is required to wear includes uniform shirt, shorts and socks, footwear and adequate shin guards. Players are prohibited from wearing things such as jewelry or watches as to protect all players including themselves. The major skills that are needed to play soccer are control and speed. You must have control over the ball and speed as you run and kick the ball at the same time. In soccer, you run which causes you to sweat, which rids the body of impurities.

Soccer is a nickname for association football.

The british have many nicknames for their sports, as do other countries. For football they would often say "asoc" or "soccer" which were shot for association.

Football is the official name and simply refers to playing a sport with your foot and a ball.

Some others sports have tried to take the football name. Australian rules football, American football, Rugby football, Gaelic football. But few can be called real football as they don't use their feet to play the sport.

Only association football, the world most popular sport, can call itself football in any reals ense of the word.

soccer is not an acronym... sorry! True, soccer is not an acronym. But let me give you a bit of background on the word. Football as we know it is technically called Association Football. People started to shorten this to Assoc when they referred to it, and then the word evolved to soccer.

Soccer is not an abbreviation, therefore it is not a shortened word. The word is soccer. But it is derived from Association Football, which is the original name. The word "soccer" is used in America and Australia, among other countries where there is more than one code of football. There is a move in Australia to get back to using the original word "football".
