Countries have different ideologies. Political opponents might not want to play each other as arguements and fights might occur. In a football/soccer game Spain and the USSR didn't play each other as the two countries had different ideologies. However sport can be seen as friendship between politicans as the athletes compete in a friendly manner.
The value that people can get in studying politics of sport is they become more knowledgeable in that certain kind of sport. We become less ignorant.

yes politics do have an affect on sport. they spend massive amounts of money on sports and facilities. millions of dollars on sporting clubs and associations like for example: THE WORLD CUP! and other events
The answer to that is it depends on who you ask. Many people would choose sports and many people would choose politics. For me, it's neither. For me, it's far more important how each of us treats the other for all occasions. Sports is a teamwork activity and politics is a compromise activity and you can participate in or enjoy either and still believe in the Golden Rule.
