So in 2011 the Texas Rangers have apparently come up with a new hand gesture (shown above). I've been scouring the interwebs to figure out what it may be called or mean; however, I'm not having much luck. I've heard rumors that Ranger players are not yet ready to unveil it's name; however, you can't believe everything you read on the web. Perhaps it is something dreamed up by the Rangers marketing team to start selling more merchandise seeing how wildly popular the "claw" and "antlers" have become?

I have seen several posts calling this "the cobra"; however, I have also seen posts refuting this claim stating that Michael Young actually spoke out and denied that it is the "cobra".

***UPDATE*** So, according to an article in the Dallas Morning News, the sign is indeed called the "Sitting Duck". Apparently it was a bit of an inside joke that started in the clubhouse and involved ex-Rangers infielder Hank Blalock. For some reason, Rangers players still won't explain exactly what it means, yet fans are still embracing it.

MLB.com is now selling a shirt entitled "Ducks on the Pond" with the hand gesture; however, it doesn't make sense to me that the hand sign simply means bases loaded considering the Rangers do it every time they get a hit....

In addition, the Rangers couple the sitting duck with a second gesture where they essentially interlock their fingers...no idea what is going on there.
