On a scoreboard, the number next to the team is the number of a pitcher for the team:

1) If the game is not over, the number is that of the pitcher currently in the game for the team.

2) If the game is over, the number is that of the pitcher that was the winner/loser for the team.

How is the top goal scorer selected from various leagues in Europe?

The "Top European Goalscorer" is known as the "Golden Boot Winner". Each league has a ranking, and as the English league is tougher than the Czech league, goals in England are worth more. So, if for instance a player from England scores 30 goals, and a player from the Czech Republic scores 30 goals, the English player will win the Golden Boot. I'm not sure how this works out, you might want to go on Wikipedia and type in Golden Boot.
