He watches over every player on offense who could get the ball. Then, he assesses what might happen in the play. If he thinks that the quarterback will pass the ball, then he guards a wide receiver. If he thinks that the halfback or fullback will run the ball, then he prepares for the run. Essentially, he is the last line of defense on the defensive team.
