They play in what is known as League Two, which is the fourth division of English soccer, despite the misleading name.
It is in the English town of Accrington. It isn't certain where the Stanley name first came from but it is believed that patrons of the Stanley Arms on Stanley Street in Accrington formed a club called Stanley Villa in the early 1890s and it later became Accrington Stanley.
Accrington Stanley F.C. was originally founded in 1891. However, the original club dissolved in 1896 and a new club under the same name was formed in 1968.
