Sparta and Athens
yes
Athens
No he did not
Not particularly.Yes it was un upset. El Guerrouj was a lone Morrocan going into the race. Bekele, who had broken Geb's 5000m World Record shortly before the Games, was defenately favored to win.Going back to El Guerrouj being a lone Morracan in the race, Bekele alongside 2 other Ethopians were in the race. If you watch the video, the plan of the Ethopians was to box El Guerrouj. He would be blocked by Bekele in the front, Gebremariam on the right, and Berhanu in the back. It was the perfect plan, but in did not work out because of the Kenyan named Kipchoge. With 250m to go, Bekele speeded of because he needed to get ahead of the leading Kenyan, Kipchoge, and that opened a space for El Guerrouj to break and challenge Bekele. Now in was who could out kick the other. Bekele did not get enough ground ahead of El Guerrouj, as El Guerrouj has a more devesating kick because he is a 1500m runner. Then with 100m to go, It would be a miracle for Bekele to win because he El Guerrouj was very good a out kicking runners.A very long answer for a simple question. A video can be seen below of that race.
