Achilles tendinitis typically occurs from overuse of the Achilles tendon, so to begin with your first priority should be to have that problem treated by a physiotherapist. They would also be able to give you more advice on which cleat to wear.

High cut seems to be the best choice for most lower leg injuries as they give more support to the ankle for cuts and quick movement. However they are least ideal if you are playing a speed position. You'll have a more limited mobility of your foot, resulting in a slower performance. Of course a lower mobility also means less strain placed on the tendon, so that could be a plus.

Medium or short would be your best bet if you want more performance, less protection. I would recommend a medium shoe as it gives a tiny bit more support, but does not ride up high on the ankle. Having a trainer tape your leg will give the tendon more support without having to sacrifice much performance. All in all though talk to your physiotherapist. This is a type of injury that can become chronic if left untreated or mistreated.

Best of luck!

Early cleats were the men's leather, ankle high, work boots that often had a steel-toe cap. People hammered metal tacks or studs on the bottom of their shoes to provide more gripping power. There was a gradual movement to lighter weight shoes with fewer cleats. These cleats had rounded edges.
