In the Boy Scouts of America, Boy Scouting used to have Skill Awards, which were recognized by belt loops, but this was discontinued in the 1980s.

The Cub Scout Academics and Sports Program uses belt loops for recognition. Further work in an area is recognized by a pin worn on the Academics and Sports Letter.[see link]
