In Taekwondo, the half red & half black belt is called a "pum" (aka: "poom"), and is used for children under the age of 15 who have reached a Junior Black Belt level, but are not old enough, or mature enough to be awarded the adult rank of dan (Black Belt degree). According to the Kukkiwon promotion regulations, there are up to four pum that may be awarded before the age of 18. Once a student has reached 15, they may transfer the pum rank to a dan rank (restrictions apply depending on their age and dan level).
