In the individual medley it's fly, back, breast, free.

But in medley relay it's back, breast, fly, free

It's different in the relay because backstroke has to start a the medley relay, there's no such thing as a '4X2L Backstoke relay, it's imposable.

What is a individual medley in swimming?

An individual medley (or IM for short) consists of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and frontcrawl in that order. This is an individual event so only one swimmer does all four strokes. IM's can be 100m (1 length of a 25m pool each) 200m (2 lengths each) or 400m (4 lengths each).A medley relay on the other hand is comprised of four swimmers swimming one stroke each one after each other. However, in a medley relay the order of the strokes is different. This order is: backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, frontcrawl.Hope this helps x

What strokes are in the swimming medley?

With swimming there is two kinds of medleys. First, there is the individual medley where the swimmer swims all four strokes in one race. Also called for short an IM. In this race, the swimmer will swim the strokes in the following order- butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle. The swimmer swims a different stroke for each quarter of the race. So for example, if a swimmer was doing a 200 IM the swimmer would swim a 50 of each stroke. Second, there is a medley relay. In a relay, you have four swimmers who all swim a quarter of the race each. In a medley relay though the order is different from an IM. The order of the strokes would be backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and finally freestyle. Hope this helps;3

What does ims mean?

IM is most commonly known as "Instant Message.""IM" is short for Individual Medley, where the swimmer does all four strokes, butterfly, breast, back, and freestyle. I'm not certain about the order of the strokes.
