This really varies depending on what dojo you go to. Every dojo has it's own belt order, but many dojos follow this order:

In Shotokan Karate Karate In the UK the Belts go in or of:

  3. Yellow
  4. Green
  5. Blue
  6. Purple
  7. Brown
  8. Brown 1st Tab
  9. Brown 2nd Tab
  10. Brown 3rd Tab
  11. Black Belt

The highest Dan grade recorded in the UK was 8th Dan, but I'm not sure if the belt holder is still alive.

Note that the order of belts will vary from organization to organization. Some dojo set their own order.

Various Martial Arts follow the system of belt rankings. Karate is one of them.

For the beginners, their are 10 ranks (called kyu) which range from white to brown belt. After that, their are 10 more senior ranks (called dan). These are all black belts ranging from 1-Dan to 10-Dan.

It varies between different schools. Belt colors represent the grades before Black Belt, and are typically arranged from light to darker colors. Some have fewer colors with multiple grades for each color, while others add a color fore each grade. Some options are as follows:

White, Brown, Black

White, Green, Brown, Black

White, Yellow, Green, Blue Brown (or Red in place of Brown), Black

White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Purple, Blue, Low Red, High Red, Low Brown, High Brown, Black.

(some times Red comes before Brown, and sometimes Brown comes first)
the highest belt in martial arts is the tenth degree black belt but you must be chosen to be a tenth degree black belt and usually you are in your 60s to your 70s sometimes 80s>
