there are alot of risks to belly button piercings. I just had mine done in November as soon as I turned eighteen and this is what happened. It was fine for the first two months then I started changing it for other types of rings. I even bought my other rings from the place I got it pierced. But my body rejected it. It was foreign and it was in my body so it pushed my skin until there wasn't any skin left. It was painful and now I have an ugly scar but it should go away soon. Anyways it can also get infected which is totally different from rejection. If it gets infected you will have to put or take antibiotics and remove the ring because you can't keep it that way. It can also kill you if the infection isn't treated in time. But hey its your body and if you are a really sanitary person then this is for you.

One of the biggest risks is that of the nipple ring being tugged and pulled from various daily activity. Having the nipple ring pulled can cause it to tear the skin which would make it more prone to infection.

Putting a hot compress on your skin or taking a hot shower just prior to changing your nipple ring also helps a lot as this makes your skin softer, which enables the nipple ring to be changed relatively easier.
