Batters develop their own styles within the rules. They must have both feet completely inside the batter's box until the ball is pitched. They must be using a regulation bat and be wearing a regulation batting helmet. They cannot strike at the ball with anything but the bat.

Bat speed is more important than bat weight so a big club won't help if the batter can't swing it fast.

Warming up well before coming up to bat is very important since it is easy to wrench your back or neck when batting.

If you do hit the ball, do not throw the bat as you take off for first base or the umpire can call you out if the bat puts others at risk. Just drop it as you go.
