Wood and fiberglass are the most common for the core but you can also have carbon fiber, the edges are made of metal, modern day skis are carbon steel but older skis can have chrome type, such as those used in cutlery. Thetopsheet, graphics and bases are made out of various kinds of plastics.
Snow shoes, skis, or if daytime thaw has created a strong crust on the snow.
That could be cross country skis.
it helps your skis glide over the snow and reduces friction!
'Snow hardener' does exactly what it says: It hardens snow. Well really, it makes snow more compact. When you are skiing, you dont want soft snow otherwise that will stop your skis by swamping them, and causing lots of friction. What you want is compact snow, so that your skis can go on top of the snow rather than sink in. Snow hardener is just a catalyst for making the snow more compact so that people skiing can ski on the slopes.
We do not sink because the skis have a high surface area compared to our feet, therefore we would float on fresh snow.

Most likely because there is a bigger chance that you will fall out of your skis while skiing alpine. Also in Cross Country technique sometimes you need to lift up your heel.
snowboards are differnet from skis because skis have 2 skis and a snowboard only has one thing that you stand on.
Alpine skiing is a sport where you travel to a mountain that has snow and you use specialised hard boots, called ski boots, which attach to skis, long planks of wood, carbon or various other materials, by bindings. You slide down the snow covered hill on your skis. If you want to learn how to ski, I would highly recommend taking lessons. There is a whole technique to skiing properly and if you learn correctly, you are much less likely to hurt yourself or other people.
