Three years old and over.
I have seen horses race as yearlings and to be in the Kentucky Derby they must be three. It just depends on the race! Most thoroughbreds begin racing at age 2.
To compete in a race with Thoroughbred race horses the min age is 16. see: http://www.vrqha.com.au/pdf/Race%20Day%20Regulations.pdf for all the rules and regulations 2008-09
to race you must be 12
No certain age. I know a 6 year old who can train them.
Racehorses are retired when they are no longer sound, fast, or when the owner chooses another career for them. There is no specific age a racehorse is retired at.
This is considered a race for 3-year-olds, but their actual age can be 2 if they turn 3 later in the year. Race horses are given the birth date of January 1st for age calculation, no matter when they fold. That is why it is so very important to have your horse fold in the early Spring.
Some races are restircted by age, some by gender. Others may be restricted to non-winners or horses that have only won 2 or 3 races in their lifetime or perhaps with the last year.
