The great Wyomia Tyus who won gold in 100 meter dash. She set a world record of 11.23 seconds at the 1964 Olympics and broke that record at the 1968 Olympics running 11.08 seconds.
Usain Bolt
There were no Olympics held in 2009, however Rebecca Adlington won 2 medals at the 2008 Olympics the freestyle 400 m and freestyle 800 m, becoming the first British Olympic swimming champion since 1988 and the first British swimmer to win two Olympics golds since 1908. When she competed in the heats of the 400 m, she broke the Commonwealth record with a time of 4:02.24 and when she competed in the preliminary heats of the 800 m, she broke the British, Commonwealth, European and Olympic records with a time of 8:18.06 and broke the world record in the final with a time of 8:14.10.
Men: Carl Lewis and Calvin Smith shared the world record at 9.93 seconds. Lewis broke the world record with a 9.92 at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Women: Evelyn Ashford held the world record at 10.76 seconds. Florence Griffith-Joyner broke the world record with a 10.49 at the 1988 U.S. Olympic Trials. That record still stands today.
There was no Olympiccompetition in 2006, but I suspect that was a typo, in the 2008 Olympics however Usain Bolt won the 100 meters, and 200 meters in world record times 9.69 sec and 19.30 seconds respectively. 100 meter time broke his team mate Osafa Powell's world record which was 9.74, and Michael Johnson's 200 meter world and Olympic record which was 19.32 from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Usain Bold was also apart of the world and Olympic record breaking 4 x 100 meter relay.
Michael Phelps has won the most gold medals in the world in bothe the summer and winter olympics. He broke the record in the 200 Butterfly on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 in the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics.
Lee Evans broke Milkha Singh's 400 meter world record, in the 1968 Olympics. The current record holder is Michael Johnson.
Michael Phelps, was trying to break the record of winning the most gold medals in Olympic (the record was seven) and he broke it by winning eight gold medals in one Olympic.
