∙ 15y agoThe Olympic Games were suspended during the World Wars (in 1916, 1940 and 1944). They also were discontinued for many years between the ancient Olympics and the modern Olympics, which began in 1896.

∙ 14y agoThe modern Summer Olympics have been held every fourth year since their inception in 1896 with the exception of the following years: 1916 (Due to WWI), 1940 and 1944 (Due to WWII). The Winter Olympics have been held every fourth year between their inception in 1924 through1992 and then every fourth year between 1994 and currently (2010) with the exception of the following years: 1940 and 1944 (Due to WWII). The Winter Olympic games were changed beginning in 1994 to stagger between the Summer Olympics so that the Winter games and Summer games would no longer be held in the same year.
