Well they were most likely friends at one point like, same as Lenin. But after they had the fight for leader of the Party they became enemies. After Stalin won out he had Trotsky thrown out of the party, deported, then killed. So they were not friends besides possibly at the beginning of the 1917 Russian Revolution.
