Who was Ray Chapman?

Ray Chapman was the Cleveland Indian shortstop that became the first and only major league player to die from a pitched ball. This was a terrible accident as Chapman was at bat and apparently seemed to have lost sight of the ball pitched by New York Yankee pitcher, Carl Mays. The fact that the ball was discolored and may have blended in with the spectator stands. From that point on, major league umpires insisted on having dirt spoiled balls cleaned or replaced by new ones. The year was 1920. In that year, ironically, Chapman's Cleveland Indians beat the Brooklyn Robins in the World Series.
