Victoria Cougars
Yes.
The Detroit Red Wings were originally named the Detroit Cougars in honor of the Victoria Cougars, formerly of the defunct PCHL, whose players were acquired by the new Detroit franchise.
The Detroit Red Wings have won 2518 games as of Fall 2010.
Detroit was granted an expansion franchise in 1926. In the same year, Frank and Lester Patrick, the owners of the Western Hockey League (yes, the owned the WHOLE LEAGUE) folded their operation and agreed to sell their players to the NHL. The new Detroit team purchased the players of the WHL Victoria Cougars and adopted their nickname in honor of the folded franchise. Their red and white striped jersey is still worn by the Wings on special occasions (e.g. Winter Classic). In 1930 the team was renamed the Detroit Falcons. In 1932, the team was bought by James Norris, who had played for the Montreal HC "Winged Wheelers" around the turn of the century. Norris adapted the logo of his old team into the now familiar red winged wheel and changed the team's name to the Detroit Red Wings.
Essentially, the answer is yes. After the Western Canadian Hockey League folded, the Detroit NHL expansion team bought the players from the Victoria Cougars and also originally took the name "Cougars" in honor of the Victoria team. Unfortunately, however, the NHL does not consider the Red Wings to be a continuation of the Victoria franchise. Incidentally, the sweaters wore during the 2009 Winter Classic were a version of the team's original Detroit Cougar sweaters.
The Detroit Red Wings have won 11 championships. They are the third most winning franchise in the NHL. They are the most winning franchise in the U.S. because the other two teams are Canadian.
Aaliyah bought 23 chicken wings for $39.10. If Aaliyah spent $32.30, how many chicken wings did she buy?
The Red Wings roster currently has 24 players.

The Red Wings were started in 1926 by the Townsend-Seyburn group of Detroit as the Detroit Cougars. They were named after the Victoria Cougars of the defunct WHL, whose players had been purchased by the Detroit franchise. In 1930 they became the Detroit Falcons. In 1932 they were purchased by James Norris, who used to play for the Montreal HC "Winged Wheelers" and renamed the Red Wings in honor of his former club.
There are only 2 players on the red wings who shoot right handed. Patrick Eaves and Brian Rafalski.
