Well.... it scores the points, most of the time.
If your a hard server, then you might wanna back away from the line but if your a short server, then it wouldn't hurt to be up TOWARDS the line. Just don't pass the line or its a foot fault.
If you are playing on an indoor court than you need to stand just behind the line.
