Swimming, like most sports, has a vast number of rules. Some common ones are as follows:
Two hand touch in Butterfly and Breastroke
Must remain on your back in Backstroke
Must use correct IM order
Head must break surface before hands come around in first stroke for Breastroke

Some things you could get disqualified for in compitition swimming are:
Leaving the block early
Doing flutter kick on breast or fly
Touching the bottom of the pool with your feet
Going further than 15
laying on your stomach too long on a back stroke turn
No running
no ducking
no diving
no pushing
Butterfly Must touch wall with two hands
Breaststroke
Must touch wall with two hands
Must keep elbows and knees in water at all times (except for start)
and in all strokes you are not allowed to pass a certain point (depends on pool)

The rules of the public swimming baths is to wear the appropriate swim wear, and show consideration to other users of the swimming pool, especially when the pool is full, and taking care when young children around you are learning to swim.
Take heed of the pool attendants instructions on what you can and cannot do with regard to the general safety of the public and yourself.
Street clothes are not permitted in the swimming pool.
No glass bottles or jars are allowed to avoid the possibility of injury from broken glass. Swimmers must not be under the influence of any alcoholic products.
No swimming with any foot disorders/ Athletes foot or open sores, or any transmittable diseases, All swimmers must take a shower before entering the swimming pool.
No running around the pool will be tolerated in view of the safety of other pool users, you must seek the advice of the pool attendants with regard to practicing diving, water must be at least 18/20 foot deep.

Each public and private swimming pool will have their own rules and regulations. Some rules may be no diving, no children under a specific age, and no alcohol.

Rules are important in swimming because without rules you can risk your life, especially in this sport. As well as this, nothing can run smoothly without rules. So rules are an important part of the game. There is always a betterment in rules. Of course, somebody experienced must have made them, so there is no point in not following them.
The rules and regulations for swimming varies for each swimming club. The general rules that are common for each club are, all contestants must be attired in swimming apparel. Behaving in a manner that can jeopardize his or other's life is strictly not accepted. Children who are not toilet trained are not allowed. All contestants must take shower before entering the pool etc.
for the 2000 till now we had to do a swimming position in order and the first one to do all of them first won the swimming part of the olympics
