Of course - any runs you score do not have to be defended.

Consider this scenario: The game is tied 2-2 after 8 innings, Royals at Indians. The Royals score 2 runs in the top of the 9th to go up 4-2. Do they win? Not yet...they still have to defend the lead, even though they have batted 9 times. Then the Indians score 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th, and the Indians win!

Now, say that the Indians are playing at the Royals. Tie game after 8 innings. In the bottom of the 9th, as soon as the Royals score, game over - they don't have to defend those runs.

This advantage is small, but definitely present - home teams tend to win around 55% of games.
