It is proven that slouching is bad for your posture and the health of your spine and back muscles. Slouching is a form of poor posture and is a position that the body is not designed for.

However in modern society there is no longer stress in proper deportment as there was in former times. This is just a cultural shift, just as smoking is disagreeable in modern times.

From an aesthetic point of view slouching looks bad, standing up straight offers a look of power whereas slouching can sometimes be interpreted as fear.

If you continue to slouch you will end up with a very bad back, the joint in your cervical vertabrae will misalign and you may end up with what is commonly called a 'hunch' or 'hump' in your back. However this is only the result of many years, almost a lifetime, spent slouching and is a prime reason why one should not!
