No, there are not, because of the design of the shell casing. However, there is a .38 Super cartridge for semi-autos.

Rather rare, but there are a very few semi-auto pistols in .38 Special. These are target pistols that are tuned to only shoot .38 Special Wadcutter target loads. As said, the design of the cartridge case does not lend itself well to semi-autos.

Is it safe t fire a 38 super ammo out of a 38 special revolver?

It is not. .38 Super is developed from .38 ACP and is for automatic pistols.

What is the difference in a .38 special pistol and a .380 pistol?

The .38 Special will be a revolver, which fires a rimmed cartridge. The .380 is an automatic pistol cartridge intended for compact semi-auto pistols, and is rimless. It is also a substantially shorter cartridge than the .38 Special. They are two completely different cartridges, that have no resemblance other than having a 3 and 8 in the names. .38 Special is a rimmed cartridge made for revolvers. .380 is a rimless cartridge made for use in automatic pistols. It is shorter, slightly smaller in diameter, and has a lighter weight bullet. The two do not interchange.

Will 357 semi-automatic pistol shoot 38 special bullets?

There are a very few semi-auto pistols that shoot .357 magnum (not .357 Sig). While they will fire .38 Special, it is as a single shot- they will not cycle the action.

Can any 38 special shoot in any 357 magnum?

Yes. They are the same diameter, the .38 Special has a shorter case. The .357 is much more powerful than the hottest .38 Special. There are very rare .357 automatic pistols (such as the coonan) that will not cycle with .38 Special. There are also lever action rifles chambered in .357 Magnum. You should not attempt to cycle .38 Special cartridges through these, either.

What is bigger a 9 mm or a 38 pistol?

Depends on the pistols. A full frame revolver will be larger than a subcompact automatic, and vice versa. As for the cartridges, it depends on which .38 you had in mind... .38 Special usually comes to mind, but there are a number of cartridges branded as .38 (.38 S&W Long, .38 Super, etc).

What type of hand gun is a 38 special?

TEHNICALLY, the .38 Special is a CARTRIDGE, not a handgun. The most common handgun to use that cartridge is a revolver. However, there are also derringers and a very few auto loading pistols that use the .38 Special, as well as a few single shot pistols, and a couple of lever action rifles. Search Wikipedia for ".38 Special" for some more info.

What year would a 38 special automatic serial?

No sn=no answer.

What is the difference between a 38 and a 380 handgun?

.002 inches in bullet diameter. While the bullet is a bit smaller as noted in the answer above the handguns that use these cartridges are very different. A .38 is usually a .38 special, which because of it's rimmed case is predominatley used in revolvers. A .380 is a rimless cartridge used in easily concealed blowback automatic handguns. The .38 special revolver has about 20% more stopping power than the .380 automatic. Both are considered adequate but not powerful personal defense arms.

Does anyone manufacture a 38 caliber semi automatic handgun?

Not in .38 Special. Several manufacturers make handguns in .38 Super, though.

Will 357 semi automatic pistol shoot 38 special bullets?

No - neither a semi-automatic .357 Magnum nor a semi-automatic .357 Sig will. .357 Magnum revolvers can fire .38 Special rounds because 1: they feed from a cylinder which can accommodate the shorter .38 Special round and 2: unlike a firearm with a chamber, the cylinders in a revolver do not need to be headspaced.
