No, absolutely not. You can begin learning ballet at just about any age--now to actually go pro... well, it's best to start earlier. B-movie superstar Jeff Fahey took ballet at 25 and won a scholarship to dance with the Joffrey (a rare exception, but it does happen).

Go for it. If you wanna learn something new, then why not? But don't expect to be a professional in one week. Now that you started late, you have to work harder and it will take time. Believe me, ballet is not easy. You will need to train for several years before you are ready to be in any company. But don't make that or your age discourage you. Ballet is a wonderful learning experience and can lead you to much success.

Can you teach yourself ballet?
I do not think you can. There are so many things you can learn. All the words used in ballet are french so you would need to learn those words. You need to be able to point out the details used in ballet. For example, in jazz, when you do a pirohuette turn, your leg by your knee is parallel and in ballet it is turned out. In ballet you all ways use opposites too. Also, you need to learn all the positions. When you do a performance, you don't always smile too. So you probally could not teach yourself ballet.

obviously anything u do u should start at when ur young but of course its not too late! just when u take ballet- work ur hardest at all times. be an overachiever:)
