I think its a good idea, but no its not. You have to get drafted on the NBA.
To become an NBA player, the only rule is that you must be at least 19 years old or play one year in college.
You do not need any education. Other than basketball knowledge, there is no education required. Thus, some NBA players do not have a college degree.
