NEVER run before in their lives?
Many people can't run that far or that long to begin with, let alone doing it all at once. So given the circumstances, I'd say any time is a great time at six miles non-stop for a complete beginner.
You should keep at it. Within a few months, you could probably cut that time a good 25-40%, maybe even almost in half.
Edit! You could probably cut your 10 minute/mile pace to an 8min/mile. 20% improvement. You won't be cutting it 40% though =P.
