The AR 15 is a rifle, not a caliber. the .223 is a caliber. Usually the AR-15 is made in caliber .223.
"Boattail" refers to a bullet that the rear is not flat, but has a taper similar to the stern of a boat. Such bullets have a better "ballistic coefficient" than bullets with square backs- less drag due to better streamlining. 223 refers to the bullet diameter- or .223 inches.
To determine how many times 8 can go into 223, you divide 223 by 8. This gives you 27.875, which means 8 can go into 223 a total of 27 times, with a remainder. Specifically, 8 multiplied by 27 equals 216, and subtracting that from 223 leaves a remainder of 7.

I'm not familair with a rilfe known as a 227, but in general, no one caliber is "better" than another caliber- they are useful for different things.

"Deadlier" is subjective. The .223 has more velocity on average, but the .308 has considerably higher muzzle energy.
Both are fine.
