In 1998, Nigeria were once again knocked out in the last sixteen after a 4 - 1 beating from Denmark, having finished top of Group D, with victories over Spain and Bulgaria.
2002 saw the Nigerians knocked out in the first round of the competition, as they finished bottom of Group F with one draw and two defeats from three games.
