The men's 5000m speed skating event in the Winter Olympics is equivalent to 5 kilometers. Skaters complete 12.5 laps around a 400m track to cover the distance.
Short track speed skating was added to the Winter Olympics as a demonstration sport in 1988, and was contested for the first time as a competitive event in 1992, having featured in every Winter Olympics since then.
this depends completely on who he is sponsored by ..... the better the sponser the better the money :D
Speed skaters can reach impressive speeds, typically ranging from 30 to 40 miles per hour (48 to 64 kilometers per hour) during races. Elite male speed skaters often clock in at the higher end of this range, while female skaters generally reach speeds slightly lower. Factors such as technique, track conditions, and individual skill contribute to these maximum speeds. In record-setting performances, some skaters have been known to exceed these averages briefly.
In the Winter Olympics, speed skating. In the Summer Olympics, athletics (track and field).

8 in regular track (2 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze) and 4 in short track (3 silver, 1 bronze). Cindy Klassen led all Canadian speed skaters, as well as all athletes that competed in the 2006 Games, in medals won with 5 (1 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze).
The finger tips of the left hand of a short track speed skaters glove is usually metal, plastic or a material named epoxy. This is because when they turn, they are trying to skate the fastest track pattern. The track pattern varies depending on the skaters position in the race and whether they want to make a pass. Becuase of the high speed and tight corner, a pivot may be needed to maintain the desired track pattern. There fore they put down their left hand (made possible by the natural lean of the skater) so that they can stay a little longer on their right (outside) foot to ensure they stay tight to the apex block (top puck on the corner) which they must skate past with their right foot for any track pattern. The tip has less resistance making it so that the skaters don't lose speed during a pivot. Also, the gloves are made from a cut proof material so that skaters will not get cut by blades.
Because he is an outstanding long track speed skater.
