you could use a technique called whole-part-whole, this is where they try the whole skill(in this case passing or shooting)& then identify where they are going wrong and practice with simple passing back and forth to team members or shooting into an empty goal to get them used to hitting the ball before actually playing again, and then try the whole skill again to see how they have improved.
