In 1800 there was no formal football team or league structure. It was not until 1857 that Sheffield F.C. formed the first official football club. They played teams from around the Sheffield area, the team often recognised as the second oldest club in the world is Hallam F.C., founded in 1860. The first match between the two resulted in a 2-0 victory for Sheffield F.C. and as such they were the first ever best team in the world.
