One of the things that a mechanic could be told to buy when working with spark plug wires could be a spark plug gap wire gauge. Another thing could be spark plug wire pullers.

I just got spark plugs from a local napa store and the gentlemen told me to gap the plugs before installing. .032
.028 - .032 is what the dealer told me. Be careful not to damage the ignitor when gaping.
i had 98' Malibu that did the same exact thing. i was told that ac delco spark plug are the only plug with the the correct heat range. all others plugs are incorrect. i put ac delco spark plugs ($13 per plug) and premium spark plug wires from napa auto ($50 per set) and haven't had a problem since. my uncle is a mechanic for Chevy and tipped me off to that.
I do believe it's 34. That's what I was told by my local auto parts store.
