In Monopoly, the player who goes first is usually determined by rolling the dice to see who gets the highest number. The player with the highest roll goes first.
Following to rules to the letter, in strokeplay, the person who is farthest away should go first, this means taking the pin out and putting it back in for yourself if you so wish. You can however without penalty waive that and you can play onto the green. In matchplay, whoever is farthest away should go first, unless it is agreed by both players to waive this. But if the player who is closest goes first, you can get them to replay the shot, because they played out of turn.
